Mega Thalassemia Awareness and Screening Camp

🌺“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”

🌺In the Mega Thalassemia Awareness and Screening Camp conducted at the Centre for Study of Social Change by IAP Mumbai as a part of the World Thalassemia Day celebrations, 90 individuals were screened. The samples were subjected to CBC and Hb Electrophoresis.
The final analysis of the reports tested at the NIH revealed –
Vitamin B12 deficiency -2
Iron deficiency -10
Beta Thalassemia trait – 2
Hereditary Persistence of Fetal Hemoglobin-1

🌺 IAP Mumbai expresses special thanks to Dr Sangeeta Mudaliar HOD Hemato-Oncology Dept Wadia Hospital, for her contribution in analyzing the CBC reports.

🌺All adolescents with Iron and Vit B12 deficiency would be supplemented with required medications. Family screening was adviced for the kids with Thalassemia trait.
