Walkathon – to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB)
🌺On March 25, 2025, the Department of Pediatrics, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, GGMC and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, the IAP Respiratory Chapter in collaboration with IAP Mumbai, hosted a walkathon to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB) on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day celebrated on the 24th March each year to mark the day Sir Robert Koch discovered the TB germ.
🌺The event drew an enthusiastic participation of over 100 individuals, including esteemed professors, nursing staff and students, resident doctors, and medical students. The rally took a circuitous route from JJ Hospital to Sandhurst Road Railway Station and back.
🌺Throughout the rally, the participants actively engaged with the public, sensitizing them to the symptoms of TB and emphasizing the importance of timely treatment. This grassroot effort aimed to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding TB, encouraging individuals to seek medical attention promptly.
🌺The event concluded with an address by the Honorable Dean of GGMC and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, at JJ Hospital, followed by a collective pledge to eliminate TB. The ceremony was marked by the symbolic release of balloons, underscoring the commitment to creating a TB-free India.
🌺The event was attended by EB member Dr Amin Kaba and organized by Dr Sushant Mane with the support of HOD Dr Bela Verma on behalf of Team IAP Mumbai.
